NWCAC June Educational Meeting, June 15, 2019

Our June Educational Event will be on June 15 from 7:30 AM-12 Noon at Northwest Community Hospital.  The topics are: “Heat Related Emergencies” by Linda Smith MS RN CCRN-K.  This presentation will discuss complications from exposure to excess environmental heat such as cramps, exhaustion, and stroke.  Heat problems in the elderly and pediatric population will also be discussed. The second presentation will be “Nurses and Substance Abuse Disorders,” by Janet Pickett, RN, CARN, CADC.  Janet provides  earned advocacy for nurses with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation and the Board of Nursing. She will discuss nurses’ risk factors for substance abuse problems, legal rights and responsibilities regarding substance abuse problems in nurses, and treatment programs. Our third presentation will be “An Overview of the Illinois Poison Center,”  by Amy Deitche BSN RN CSPI.   Amy will discuss common poisonings and the services offered by the Illinois Poison Center.  This activity has been submitted to the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses for approval to award contact hours. The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Midwest Conference

MWC is just around the corner!! Our conference this year is at the Stonegate Conference Center in Hoffman Estates on Monday, March 11th and Tuesday, March 12th, We are still accepting registrations online thru March 6th. We will also accept walk in’s the day of the conference. Hope to see you all there!!

NWCAC is very busy planning our 2019 Midwest Conference!! It is scheduled for March 11 &12, 2019 at The Stonegate Conference Centre in Hoffman Estates. Our new location offers more free parking, free WIFI in the breakout rooms and more comfortable seating. We will also be including lunch in the registration cost. Plan now so you can be off of work those days. You don’t want to miss out on this great educational experience! Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
